Escape the cold: a Christmas getaway to warm destinations

Looking for a Christmas holiday that's different from the usual? If this year you're asking yourself where is it warm in December, or searching for the best winter sun destinations, and dreaming of spending Christmas on the beach instead of bundled up in a coat, São Tomé and Príncipe is one of the best-kept warm Christmas destinations in the Atlantic. This trip is designed for anyone looking for Christmas holidays in the sun: an all-inclusive package with a Lisbon–São Tomé–Lisbon flight, guides, exceptional hotels and excursions, to discover in a small group — with guaranteed departure — one of the best places to visit in December.
If you're planning your Christmas holidays abroad, comparing where to go in December, looking for cheap Christmas holiday deals, or simply gathering Christmas trip ideas that go beyond the ordinary, here's your answer: 9 days between historic plantations, deserted beaches, cacao, chocolate, and the Equator crossing the sea right in front of you.

Itinerary

Day by day

Day 1

Arrival in São Tomé

The group departs from Lisbon and arrives in São Tomé in the late afternoon; direct transfer to Roça Santa Luzia, a former colonial plantation restored in the green heart of the island. While winter coats are coming back out at home, here begins a Christmas trip in tropical warmth, among wooden verandas, gardens and the silence of the forest — time to settle in and rest after the journey.

Day 2

Coffee Route, Milagrosa and Waterfalls

A day dedicated to the Coffee Route, Milagrosa and Waterfalls, with a local guide: a visit to old coffee-producing plantations, a stop at the small chapel of Nossa Senhora da Milagrosa, and a refreshing swim in waterfalls hidden in the tropical rainforest. Return to Roça Santa Luzia for another night, on a half-board basis.

Day 3

Paradise Beaches Route — Journey to the South

A journey to the south of the island along the Paradise Beaches Route, stopping at some of São Tomé's most spectacular beaches — for anyone who's always wanted to spend Christmas on the beach, this route proves that warm Christmas destinations exist just a few hours' flight away, via Lisbon. At the end of the day, arrival at Inhame Ecolodge, where Christmas Eve is celebrated in an intimate setting, surrounded by equatorial rainforest.

Day 4

Agricultural Route and Praia Piscina

Morning dedicated to the Agricultural Route, visiting cacao, banana and other tropical crop plantations that still sustain the island's economy. In the afternoon, a swim at Praia Piscina, a natural pool formed by rocks by the ocean — the perfect postcard for anyone looking for a Christmas holiday in the sun. The evening closes with another festive dinner at Inhame Ecolodge.

Day 5

Ilhéu das Rolas Excursion

A boat excursion to Ilhéu das Rolas, the exact point where the Equator crosses São Tomé and Príncipe. Free time to swim, explore the islet and enjoy a fresh fish lunch by the sea. Return to Inhame Ecolodge in the late afternoon.

Day 6

Gastronomic Route and Chocolate Tasting

Transfer to Omali, with a stop along the way on the Gastronomic Route: a lunch prepared at a plantation by the chef, blending traditional São Tomé cuisine with contemporary techniques. The afternoon continues with a tasting of São Tomé chocolate, considered among the best in the world — from bean to bar.

Day 7

Cacao Route and Lagoa Azul

Cacao Route, visiting old plantations that made São Tomé one of the world's largest cacao producers in the early 20th century. The day ends at Lagoa Azul, a turquoise lagoon surrounded by tropical vegetation, perfect for one last swim in nature.

Day 8

City and Market

A morning exploring São Tomé city: colonial streets, the Fort of São Sebastião and the local market, in a whirl of colours, aromas and tropical produce. One last artisanal chocolate tasting before leaving the island. At the end of the day, transfer to the airport and boarding the overnight flight back to Lisbon.

Day 9

Arrival in Lisbon

After the overnight flight, the group arrives in Lisbon, with landing expected at 2:30 pm. This is where the group trip officially ends; the connection to your home city is arranged on your own, and our team will be happy to advise you in finding it. And so ends one of the best Christmas trip ideas: days of sun, beach, cacao and chocolate in the middle of the equatorial Atlantic.
